Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the main Italian regions in terms of wine production; here there are several national excellences, especially for whites. The most important white grape varieties are Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo friulano, Ribolla Gialla. Among those with red grapes, there are the Pignolo, the Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, the Schioppettino and the Terrano. In addition to these, there are international varieties such as Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is, together with Veneto, the territory where Prosecco is born, white wine with a Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) famous all over the world.
