Who is Umani Ronchi?

The history of Umani Ronchi is a story of lives, vines, lands and values. Of seasons that are renewed, of vintages that each year give different and unique fruits, of wines that are born and travel the world. A story that began more than fifty years ago, in Cupramontana. The company that has always maintained a family dimension, is led by Michele Bernetti and his father Massimo. A solid and forward-looking management that has been able to put the Earth and the People at the heart of the matter. Innovating, experimenting, investing. The production of Umani Ronchi wines goes through the synergy of three production sites located in the territories of Castelli di Jesi, Conero and Abruzzo. Three cellars, each with its own history and specific vocation. Umani Ronchi wines, present in more than 60 countries, are recognized and appreciated all over the world thanks to the company's ability to always remain faithful to the concept of "quality" demonstrating that you can be "artisans" and make good wines even when big numbers move. The Osimo winery, renovated in 2000, is the largest winery for red wines: Montepulciano and other red-berry vines. Large surface of steel and concrete tanks, tonneaux, large and small barrels, pupitres. The area is completed by a space dedicated to bottling, labeling and packaging. A real production environment, regulated by meticulous and punctual planning, designed taking into account the most advanced oenological techniques. Technique and passion for details at the service of the conception of real oenological works. The Bottaia is the real pride of the company. Built at the headquarters of Osimo it is a piece of architectural creative works, demonstrating how Umani Ronchi is open to research and innovation. All the materials used have been chosen with the aim of creating the best microclimatic conditions for the conservation and refinement of the wines in wood: the internal walls, made of bricks and gravel, are able to counteract any hygrometric differences and create a real "humidity compensation machine". The metal wall that covers the external façade has the function of protecting the environment from the sun's rays. Finally, to allow circulation and air exchange, a channel system has been implemented that acts according to the chimney effect principle. An important project for a model winery inspired by "sustainable" values.

The experience

  Visit to the Cellar

Immersed in the Conero National Park, the visit opens with a relaxing walk through the vineyards of Montepulciano, along the hills that extend around the promontory of Mount Conero. The conditions are peculiar: we are close to the coast with the mitigating influence of the sea, the temperatures are cooler, and the soil is mainly calcareous. Here the vine ripens well, and from this small corner of land wines are born that know how to combine extreme typicality, purity and elegance. At the end of the excursion you will be introduced into the magnificent Bottaia. Excavating a hill overhanging one of the vineyards owned by the family, the Bottaia has been realized favouring an almost spontaneous fusion between nature and functional elements. The sloping ceilings, the inclined steel pillars that seem to support the thrust of the ground, make it an example of "deconstructed" architecture, where quality and sustainability find their natural expression. On the left side of the cellar, in a space made from wood and closed by glass walls, there is the tasting room where you will have the opportunity to taste the most representative labels of the 3 territories where the company is present in combination with a selection of typical Marche products.
